But that’s all cool now, I guess.

Remember the time when Kurt stopped caring about all that and started treating Dave like a friend?

Ah yes, I too would stop caring about a man that beat the shit out of me for years, harassed me, stalked me, committed sexual violence against me, and threatened to kill me.

And it took Kurt weeks! I’d have forgiven and forgotten in days!

But remember! Chris Brown committed violence against a woman, and woe be unto those who would dare so much as cast a kindly glance in his direction!

Yes, both of these incidents are inexcusable.

But let’s remember that one happened in real life, and the other one is a story line on a TV show. And let’s remember that Dave (the character) apologized, reformed, and was just a teenager at the time.

Chris Brown has accepted responsibility for his actions, but has uttered no apology to fans or Rihanna. He has refused to answer questions about the incident, claiming that Satan is the reason people keep asking him about it.

If Dave were a real person, I’d tell him that what he did was unconscionable, that he had to live with what he did to Kurt for the rest of his life. But given that he has apologized and confronted his own violence, I’m more likely to forgive him than Chris Brown, who would rather me believe that a supernatural force is making his life uncomfortable with interview questions. I also believe that people make mistakes: teenagers, especially.

I also think it’s wrong to juxtapose these two incidents of violence. I think the point you’re trying to make is: men who beat men are more accepted by society than men who beat women. I’m not sure how you’d prove that, but I can only speak for myself and all I can say is hurting another human being is wrong.

But if a person who does this can change, apologize, and accept responsibility, they may get my forgiveness. They may not get society’s or the survivor’s, but they may get mine. It’s incredible to me that Kurt was able to forgive Dave—but that’s the strange thing about forgiveness, isn’t it?

Until Chris Brown apologizes and starts to show the public that he’s changing, he does not deserve my support, my consideration, nor does he deserve to think so highly of himself.
